A San Diego Lawyer's Reflections.

As time passes, the words of our teachers seem to take on greater meaning.  If only we could have had greater appreciation and understanding at the time.

Some thoughts after years of practice, business, family and events.  At the age of 16 after two years of Grossmont High School, in what was then rural San Diego east county, I was off to the Ford Foundation's experiment with early college at the University of Chicago and unforeseen adventure.   Decades of adventure (and misadventure) followed.  Now with full-time practice, a vineyard and winery. CV further on.

Karl Llewellyn taught “Elements” at the University Of Chicago Law School.  He was my hero. At the 50th college reunion I asked a law school alum if he remembered Karl.  Did he ever. One day he was determined to be totally prepared for class, and he said he was. The day of class an assistant announced Karl passed away the night before.”

The encounter reminded me that I had taped some of Karl’s lectures. Now digitalized, Karl's voice was like yesterday.  The era is evidenced by my voice about the recording someday being made into an RCA record. Hopefully Karl and wife Soyia would be proud (if from somewhere in the hereafter).

Personal life has been a delight. A six-year-old granddaughter makes one wonder if one could skip parenthood going directly to grandparenting. Health, strength and consuming curiosity make wielding tools and tractor a spare time pleasure..
